February is Black History Month. The circus hasn't necessarily been better than the rest of society about the way in which black entertainers were treated. The Uncle Junior Project is documenting the stories of black performers and sideshow entertainers. Some of these stories touch on the harsh realities of slavery and its relationship to the marketability of the exotic. Knowing history, let's actively work to change the future.
